Shifting the Light … with Andalusite

“I have been handling thousands of stones over the last 36 years of being a jeweler. But, when I spied your peach no pink…aha! It is green..oh, is that a pinpoint of red? Meet andalusite, a stone of no one true color. It’s primary ‘resting’ color is a translucent slightly copper-brown.

You were/ are the stone that tells me I have been a metalsmith before. The metals told me right away, but a stone had never claimed me until I met you, andalusite. All of the years prior, I never felt like I could wear a stone for any length of time, but when I caught the subtle hues of this gem, I committed to adorning myself with it, immediately!

I created a piece with this lovely element and paired it with a rainbow moonstone that ‘accidentally’ became my personal piece. I cracked the moonstone in a few places, making it unsellable to clients. However, I have remade the piece three times upon request by interested customers.

Certainly, this couldn’t be man’s only awareness of this stone. You must’ve been played a key role in talisman creations long, long ago, andalusite? Being that you have the power to clear all chakras and are a strong grounding force.

You are the gem sector of a larger stone where chiastolite, the fairy cross stone also resides. This magical cross pattern acts like a spiritual sign in the rougher parts of the rock. What a philosophical message chiastolite leaves… we look for guidance, often in nature when our path becomes more difficult.

Andalusite, you’re chatoyancy aka color-change is slight in the light; it shifts my mood to someplace lighter and higher, when I am feeling a certain heaviness.

I am grateful for you finding me… you have transformed my life into a brighter world…all colors flashing.

First found in this epoch in Andalusia in the 1700’s, it is a more modern discovery of a stone.

  • Below are first my personal piece that has andalusite drops suspended from a rainbow moonstone.

  • Then, a collection of loose andalusite.

  • Next, is a commissioned mandala in process that I made for a client featuring a ring of andalusite with iolite & a smoky quartz in center.

  • The finished mandal piece.

  • And, an unset piece of chiastolite, the fairy cross stone.
